Putting our Expertise to Work for You

Historical research takes many forms. Whether you seek information on the history of a building, neighborhood, or event; the genealogy of your family; or the origins and development of a community institution, we can locate, analyze, and interpret the primary and secondary sources that hold the keys to your story. Our past research projects and clients have included the following:

  • Nevada State Historic Preservation Office
  • City of Reno
  • Edible Reno-Tahoe magazine column (“Edible Traditions”)
  • National Park Service Historic American Buildings Survey and Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER)
  • RENO Magazine Reno history column (“Reno Revisited”)
  • Renown Health 150th Anniversary Commemoration
  • University of Nevada, Reno Libraries Department of Special Collections
  • Washoe County Community Services Department
  • Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC)

Deliverables may range from brief outlines and timelines to detailed reports containing archival photos, maps, newspaper articles, and other relevant sources, including historic contexts. Give us a call and tell us what you would like to know. Many research projects can benefit from the incorporation of oral history, one of our specialties.

Walking Tours

We regularly research and conduct specialized walking tours of downtown Reno. These have included individually-tailored tours for the following organizations and events:

  • Medieval Association of the Pacific Conference
  • Next City Vanguard Conference (photo below)
  • Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA)
  • Riverwalk Merchants Association
  • RSA Western States Rhetoric and Literacy Conference
  • Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC)
  • Western Literature Association

Our walking tours range from 60 minutes to several hours, depending on your needs, and are fully adaptable to the size and mobility of your group. We specialize in orientation tours highlighting Reno’s origins and development, as well as the stories behind the historic buildings and landscapes of the historic riverfront, the traditional casino core, East 4th Street, and Midtown.
